Baby Dolan: Week 31

Week 31

(April 21 – April 27)

Weight gained: 14 pounds

Symptoms:

  • Still some pressure on my diaphragm making it hard to breathe at times.
  • Some general discomfort.  Just feels like things are crowded in there 🙂
  • Some heartburn….TUMS are my friend!
  • Emotional….like, more than usual.  I cried when I saw a one-armed man at Orange Leaf the other day,  AND when we heard Brahms lullaby play at the hospital (they play a few measures of the song every time a baby is born there…the most precious thing EVER).  I will LOSE it when they play it for Baby Dolan. 🙂

Movement: Yep!  Still pretty consistent all day long.  I love being able to tell where the head and little butt are!

Food Aversions: Nothing new.

Food Cravings:  I finally got some Orange Leaf frozen yogurt this week, which I had been craving for forever.  And ice cream sandwiches are back in the house (and won’t last long – guaranteed).

Sleep:  Like a rock. <— I’m really surprised it hasn’t gotten more difficult to sleep yet!  Hoping this continues to last a little while longer.

Stretch marks? Not yet!

Miss Anything?  Nope.

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week:  Our baby class!  We attended a class called “Done in a Day” on Sunday of this week.  It was a long day (9-4:30), but it was so nice to have it all covered in one shot.  (Well, we are going back for one more two hour class on Labor Support, but other than that, we are all finished!)  They covered labor/delivery, infant care, and breastfeeding.  It was a tiny bit overwhelming, but it helped having Brian there.  He is a little sponge when it comes to facts, so hopefully between the two of us we’ll be alright. 🙂  It was even more fun because our friends, Colleen and Justin, happened to be there, too!

Wedding rings on or off? On.

Happy or moody most of the time: A little stressed out by the end of the week as we are in the throes of our home renovation.  Currently we have no floors (well, just a cement slab), and all of our furniture is under a drop cloth.  However, the end is near!

New Baby Items: Nadda.

Looking forward to:  Heading to Chicago next weekend!

Baby Dolan: Week 30

Week 30

(April 14 – April 20)

Weight gained: 12 pounds

Symptoms:

  • I don’t know how to describe it, exactly, but sometimes it feels hard to breathe.  Not like I’m out of breath, but like there is just general pressure around my lungs.  It makes me want to stand outside and take deep breaths!  I told my doctor this week and she said that is perfectly normal; the baby is just taking up more and more space and all my insides are pushing up!  She listened to my lungs and all sounded completely okay.  I’ve found that laying down helps a little bit.  Now to find a bed for my office…
  • Some round ligament pains, mostly when I’m trying to get out of bed.
  • Good old heartburn!

Movement: Yep!  The movements have gone from the repetitive kicks and jabs to more overall movement.  It is CRAZY to be able to feel the head/butt – Brian even swore he felt an ear??!  I look forward to feeling him/her all day long.  Also, I was so thrilled Aunt Katie got to feel him/her when she was here!

Food Aversions: Nothing new.

Food Cravings:  Same as before, but I did cave and buy chocolate ice cream this week and ate the whole carton by myself in two days.  I’m normally not a chocolate ice cream gal – mint chocolate chip all the way!  Or cookie dough.  But it was on sale and it was deeeeeeelicious.

Sleep:  Like a rock.

Stretch marks? Not yet!

Miss Anything?  Nope.

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week:  We had an appointment this week and met Dr. Neff.  During the appointment, the baby’s heartbeat (153, by the way) was a little “off” – there was a little catch in it.  She said it was nothing at all to be worried about and very common, but just in case they sent me to the Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic at St. Vincent’s Women’s Hospital.  I was so glad they were able to see me the same day, as I know I would have worried anyway!  Turns out it is Premature Atrial Contractions, and will most likely resolve itself before the baby is born.  For now, I’ll go to the doctor weekly (oh darn ;-)) to have it monitored.  The doctor said that only 1% of babies who have this go on to need medicine after they are born (and that is only if it doesn’t correct itself).

The GOOD news from all of this is that we got to see the little one again!  This was a complete surprise, as after our 20 week appointment you typically do not go on to have any more ultrasounds.  The tech went through and checked the baby overall, and everything looked great.  The baby had the hiccups the whole time, so it was pretty cute to see!  He/she weighs in around 3 lbs. 14 oz. (I know this can be way off, but this was a lot bigger than I’d expected!) and is already head down – wahoo!  His/her little face was smooshed up against my placenta so it was hard to get a great look, but we did manage some good shots.

Look at that sweet little nose and those lips!

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!

New Baby Items: None this week, but we need to start unpacking and unloading all our gear from last weekend!

Looking forward to:  Finnnnnally finishing our downstairs!  Our friend, Russell, is graciously coming down to help us next week.  I can’t tell you how exciting I am to finally have a living room and kitchen again!

Baby Dolan: Week 29

Week 29

(April 7 – April 13)

Weight gained: 11 pounds

Symptoms:

  • I feel like I’m getting to the point where, when I’m really tired or have been standing for awhile, I find myself doing “the waddle.”  🙂 Never figured myself for a waddler, but it is so much easier when you are tired!
  • Some round ligament pains, mostly when I’m trying to get out of bed or roll over.

Movement: Yep!  Some days a lot of movement, and other days not quite as much…still pretty active all day long, though.  I’ve noticed less of the repetitive “kicks” and more of the baby moving as a whole.  Tryin’ to get comfy in there?

Food Aversions: Nothing new.

Food Cravings:  Still golden delicious apples and ice cream.  And anything sweet.

Sleep:  Like a rock.

Stretch marks? Not yet!

Miss Anything?  Nope.

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week:  Our baby shower!  It was such a beautiful day.  Brian and I are so thankful for all of the gifts for Baby Dolan.  We feel incredibly blessed to have such wonderful, caring people in our lives!  (The only sad note was that Mary couldn’t be here with us, as she was very, very sick.  We missed her terribly but it will just make our next visit with her that much more special!)

I wish I had more pics from the shower….I’m going to see if I can steal some from Kristy and Kelly.  🙂  Here is a pic of me and my pregnant friends, Sarah and Colleen.  Sarah is due August 8 and Colleen is due in just 6 weeks!

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!

New Baby Items: Yes!  I’ll try to post some pics here soon – the nursery is an explosion of baby gifts!  It makes everything so much more real to see things like our stroller and baby carrier that will be in use very shortly.  Even Brian pointed out the little tiny “headrest” in the baby carrier – it’s just hard to imagine this little one being here with us after all this time.  I just can’t wait to bring our little guy/girl home.

Looking forward to:  My next doctor’s appointment on Thursday!  I still can’t believe I’m up to going every 2 weeks already.

Baby Dolan: Week 28

Week 28

(March 31 – April 7)

Weight gained: 10 pounds

Symptoms:

  • Not just having to pee a LOT, but the baby seems to love the area around my bladder in particular.  🙂 Brian and I took a little trip up to Michigan this weekend so it made for a lot of pit stops.  And it’s strange, but I could clearly tell when the baby would move off my bladder – I’d go from “holy *&%^ I’m going to pee myself!” to “okay, I might need to pee sometime soon” within minutes.  If that’s the worst I’m going to get by this point, though, I’ll take it!

Movement: Yep!  This week I’ve noticed the baby not so much “kicking,” but moving around and…running into things in there!  It’s a hard feeling to describe.  Not painful, but almost tingly?

Food Aversions: Nothing new.

Food Cravings:  Just junk food in general 🙂  Camping food isn’t exactly health food, so quite a bit of junk was consumed.

Sleep:  Like a rock.

Stretch marks? Not yet!

Miss Anything?  Nope.

Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week:  Not so fun, but I had my glucose test this week.  It wasn’t bad at all – I’d heard so many horrible things about the drink they give you, but it really wasn’t so bad.  Suuuuuuper sweet, though!  Thankfully they’ve changed the “rules” – they used to have you fast the morning of, and then come in and pound the drink in 5 minutes.  Not surprisingly they’ve stopped that because people would get sick chugging such a sweet drink after fasting!  I even felt nauseated for awhile, and I had some cheese (breakfast of champions, I know, but I was running late) before.  Anyway, they said they’d let me know within a week if I needed to return for a follow up test – fingers crossed!

Wedding rings on or off? On.

Happy or moody most of the time: A little stressed with our home renovation stuff.  I know everything will get done before the baby comes, it’s just hard because I’ve never experienced living in a “construction zone” before.  I give major credit to people who do major home reno projects!  I’m not even a “clean freak” (aka Stan) or anything, so it surprises me that it’s bothered me this much.  The GOOD news is that our friend is coming to help us with the remaining projects, so we should be all done within a few weeks!

New Baby Items: Yes!  We stopped in Chicago Friday night to see our friends, and AJ and Bekkah gave us a bouncie seat!  Our car was packed pretty full with camping gear, so we left it up there until we go back next month.  I think it will definitely come in handy and we can’t wait to use it!

Looking forward to:  Katie and Mary are coming!  Katie and Mary are coming!  🙂
